Apple has posted a preview (http://www.mac.com/1/webmail.html) of their improved .Mac webmail service with a familiar feel.

With its smart use of the latest web technology, it'll remind you of the Mail application on your desktop, with a simple and elegant interface, drag-and-drop capability, built-in Address Book, and more

The new .Mac webmail looks like Mac OS X's Mail client with support for drag-and-drop, smart refreshes, built-in address book, quick reply and more.

Apple's .Mac service is a US $99.95/year service offering web mail, and some Mac OS X integration.

Does AT&T now give A-list with the 700 minute Nation Family Talk plan? The website has a plus next to it indicating it does?

    Does anyone know for sure?

I'm curious about this as well. Has anyone with the 700 minute Family Talk successfully gotten the A-List feature? If so, was it online or did you have to call?

Rule # 1 of slickdeals, never call (or email in this case).

    Wait, what forum is this?

As someone whom runs a store that has been "slickdeal"'d in the past, and as a frequent member, I know what kind of volume that (and the 100s of other websites that posted this deal) can generate. I am sure more the 10 million people had the potential to see this deal, and bought these iPads. You have no worries. They are gone and not coming back in stock at those store. You missed out.

Has anyone had a close look at the main picture on Apple's preview page? The sender of the email in the top pane is 'Katie Lorenzo' but in the preview pane her name is 'Amy Lorenzo'. Also, the delivery time is out by almost an hour.

    Comments?

    He's right! :)

If Apple stands firm, and iTunes continues to make money for Disney, I don't see why they wouldn't want to add revenue. Those who are going to download and pirate still will off of DVD's or other download services once their DRM is cracked, they might as well get the money from those who are willing to pay.

so, the thing is, tomatocart has payment modules and i want to charge customers for the "pay on delivery" option, which is not supported, hence i have to edit the module itself.

    i quote from TomatoCart's guides:

The payment php files in the /includes/modules/payment/ are responsible for rendering payment information for customers and handling payment gateway notifications; the files in the /admin/includes/modules/payment/ contains the configuration options to configure the payment module. And each payment method also have a language resource XML file in the /includes/languages/LANGUAGE_CODE/ modules/payment/.

so i basically have to edit the first two files, the one in "admin" and the one in "includes", and then update the language files...

i'm uploading the three files in folders that denote their location in a zip file.

i've edited the "admin" cod (cash on delivery) file and added the following, basically taken from a shipping method, that includes cost details (i'm adding the file in the zip file):

    $osC_Database->simpleQuery("insert into " . TABLE_CONFIGURATION . " (configuration_title, configuration_key, configuration_value, configuration_description, configuration_group_id, sort_order, date_added) values ('Payment Cost', 'MODULE_PAYMENT_COD_COST', '3.50', 'The payment cost for all orders using this payment method.', '6', '0', now())");

The cries of the entertainment industry fall on pretty deaf ears in my house.

Yes, I understand that Universal, Disney, et al, are businesses and survive by making money, but let's not loose sight of one very important fact:

It's entertainment. It is not necessary to the functioning of our country, culture, or lives.

Food is. But look how little farmers get paid.

Medical care is. But look how so much of the money we (or insurance companies on our behalf) pay actually goes to a facilities' or a doctor's malpractice insurance, not to them.

Education is. But look how poorly-prioritized education is in this country.

Work experience is, as a function of how it impacts one's ability to function competently and thereby either retain a job or to acquire a better one. But it's treated just as poorly as education.

Entertainment is NOT. As a consequence, I don't plan for, nor do I budget for, any kind of entertainment concern.

IF, and ONLY IF, there's a movie out that I really want to see, will I go to the theater to see it. And on average I probably go to a theater once a year.

The very notion of licensing when it comes to anything other than a business deal or proposition is disgusting to me. I am not against the principle of intellectual property, but I abhor how the concept is realized in our society.

I own probably something like 10 movies' worth of DVDs, and maybe 5 TV series' worth of DVDs. I think the last DVD I bought was The Incredibles, and that was to show my support for something I found to be superbly entertaining, and have watched multiple times.

Most of the movies that I've acquired by "other means" I've pitched after watching them because, upwards of 80% of those instances of acquisition were instances of the acquisition of crap. So regardless of whatever legal status those materials may have been presumed to possess by others, I no longer have them because, for free or for a fee, I don't want 'em.

The number of times I feel like Bartleby The Scrivener (that is, the character Bartleby) on a regular basis is increasing, and that's due to the fact that I perceive society to be further and further askew from what I personally accept or agree with.

And speaking of HDCP and other DRM, DMCA, etc...

I refuse to accept any of that. I also refuse to accept that I'm either going to have to buy some sort of an adaptor, or buy a new TV, just for the "pleasure" of (what is for me) the infrequent habit of actually watching TV. Yes, I fully realize that means that, at some point, I'll turn on the TV and all I'll get is snow because there are no longer any broadcast standards that my living room TV is compatible with. And you know what I'll do when that day comes? I'll go ahead and cancel my minimum-basic-TV (approx. $13/month) service, leaving only cable modem service. I'm absolutely serious about this.

Perhaps if more people were like me, we could affect some kind of change in the broadcast industry and in Hollywierd, but any kind of "coming together for common good over common consensus" is incredibly arduous at best, and impossible at worst.

Besides, when it comes to myself and a significant other, I can absolutely find a whole lot of other things to do than simply sit down and watch the boob tube.

I don't get why Americans like bigger cars.

So we could make you feel better about yourselves driving small cars.

More likely: In Europe and Asia, the cities were built before cars, so they have narrower streets. In the US, some big cities were built before cars, but most were built for wagon/car/whatever traffic and since there was so much empty space, they made more room for it.

I know, there is empty space in other countries. Got that. I also know that some people think we should live like sardines, but not having to worry about your neighbor's rowhouse catching on fire and burning yours down, or their filthy habits getting you sick is nice. It's also nice to not hear your neighbor flushing the toilet and/or what show they're watching on TV.

Yes, I understand if you live in a 350 year old building made out of 24" thick plaster/cement/adobe walls you won't hear your neighbor. OTOH, you probably don't have to worry about the ground shaking under you.. well, you might have to worry about the volcano nearby exploding into your house or something but.. that's different right?

Anyway, long story short, small cars fit small streets better.

In the US, small cars aren't a necessity, and since they're cheaper to make than big cars, they tend to be sold for those who want a new car but can't afford a bigger car. Aside from the 50s/50s/70s, I don't think size was really seen as a luxury thing - right now this country is choke full of people ashamed to be considered American that would love to have a tiny, really expensive European car to show how not stereotypical fat american they are XD

Agreed, I'm still surprised by the amount supporters of this 'deal' in an earlier thread on this board. The only winners are Deutsche Telekom (as they get to dump a barely profitable enterprise) & ATT.

So you would rather Deutsche Telekom just shut them down? You can't force them to run an unprofitable business.

This decision would have been made regardless of the T-Mobile deal. T-Mobile and Sprint have never been considered by AT&T and Verizon when making these decisions. At least not any time in the last 5 years.

I am all against this nostalgia gaming. U have so many great games available on the ipad or iphone that utilise their potencial, why would u wanr to play games that have 12 pixels running around? I think it has more to do with people remembering the "good old times" when they havent had all that depression, fear and insecurity going on.

Not all of it is based of nostalgia. There is a reason a lot of people play these games today. Yes a good portion of these old games are ****, nobody is arguing that. There are some gems that have become immune to time though, Ms. PacMan, Warlords, Missile Command. All great games.

Don't be daft, Samsung are the suppliers because they gave the best price.

Samsung will also be locked into supply contracts anyway, and they interfered with them, Samsung would be in a world of hurt, not just from Apple and litigation, but every other company they supply.

And don't you believe there aren't alternatives for Apples component supplies either - every company that can build something that Samsung already does has been on the phone this week to Apple.

The end result in all of this is that Samsung are putting at risk an $8bn turnover for copying a customers phone design.

Even if Samsung win any of these suits, Samsung will lose the $8bn turnover, and will hand their component rivals the same amount.

The question at the end of the day is whether the Galaxy/Tab/S/S2 are really worth $8bn a year - which they aren't.

So who loses? Samsung every time.

Heres the clue - never sue your customer.

You dont seem to know how much pull Samsung has in the components arena do you?

    They are
    #1 in RAM Memory
    #2 in semiconductor LSI
    #1 in flat panel display
    #1 in rechargeable battery
#2 in mobile phones over all
    #1 in NAND flash memory

$8 billion to a company with revenue generation in excess of $140 billion is chunp change. That is around 4% of total revenue.

Never sue your supplier when your supplier can turn around and gobble up other suppliers and increase the price for all OEM makers, but giving itself the cost effective goods, because it also itself is an OEM maker.

Unlike Apple, who is just a customer, Samsung is BOTH a customer AND a supplier at the same time. Either way, they win.

Quite recently, Samsung attempted to take over Sandisk, the NAND flash memory company. It wasnt successful due to some differences in price offers. That alone tells you that Samsung is willing to strangle hold the market even more than it already has. NAND flash market alone, Samsung has over 30 % of the market all to itself. For RAM memory, it close to 40%.

Apple is barking up the wrong tree.

I still can't get why Apple uses Safari. Totally doesn't fit in their 'good, innovating software' thing. I'd expect Opera to be made by Apple.
But opera is full of bloat features and doesn't perform at all macishly..

I have issues with Safari too though, on a lot of sites I visit it's unreasonably slow in comparison to Firefox/Camino.. The Firefox 2 betas are shaping up great. :)

I'm not sure of the point of the resizing text box thing.. i've never wanted that to be possible whilst using any browser, safari or not. The new tab stuff sounds very handy though!
